Area man pretty sure “I can climb that” after first visit to climbing gym

Travis Nelson, a 33 year old customer service representative, from Boise, Idaho, is pretty sure he can climb any wall at the Teleperformance call center. Nelson, who has never actually done any climbing, had visited the Asana climbing gym for the first time the previous day to redeem a soon-to-expire Groupon he found in his car. “Check it out,” said Nelson, while on break at the call center with his colleagues. “You can see a pretty clear line all the way up that wall. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I could climb that.”

Nelson, who has previously assured his colleagues he could “totally” win the World Series of Poker, surf Mavericks, and hack an iPhone, needed only one visit to the local climbing gym to analyze even the most subtle climbing lines on any random structure. “If you don’t know what your looking for, it’s not that obvious,” said Nelson, “But it’s there. I’d probably have to dyno over to that balcony, but it’s totally there.”

Shaun Mayer, manager at Asana remembered seeing Nelson the previous day. “Who now? Ooohh… Chubby guy, right? Yeah, I got him all hooked to the ropes and was going to belay him to the top, but he slipped out of his first hold and bailed. He just looked up and said, “Yeah, I’m not feeling it today,” then he left about ten minutes later when I had to tell him we’re a ‘no vaping’ zone.” said Mayer.

Nelson told his colleagues he would be spending his next paycheck “filling in his rack” for the coming climbing season. “It’s going to be epic,” said Nelson.
